Hanwha Vision has just launched a brand-new family of VGA AI thermal bullet cameras — the TNO-C40xxT series — and all eight models are now available to order at CamCentral. They bring Hanwha’s newest WN8 AI engine to thermal imaging for the first time in this compact bullet form factor.
Why thermal — and why AI thermal?

Thermal cameras don’t need light. They detect heat, which means reliable detection in total darkness, fog, smoke, glare and driving rain — the exact conditions that defeat conventional cameras at fences, shorelines and remote sites. What’s new in the TNO-C40xxT series is the intelligence behind the sensor: Hanwha’s WN8 chipset runs AI analytics directly on the thermal image, classifying what it sees as a person, vehicle or vessel before an alarm is ever raised.
That classification step is what turns a thermal camera from a motion sensor into a detection system. Virtual lines and areas trigger on crossing, direction, loitering, intrusion, enter and exit — and because the AI knows a deer from a trespasser, nuisance alarms drop dramatically. Vessel detection makes this series a natural fit for ports, marinas and waterfront facilities, and PTZ handover can automatically point a PTZ camera at whatever the thermal detects.
The family at a glance
Every model shares the same core: a 640 x 480 uncooled thermal sensor with <16mK NETD sensitivity (the lower, the better — this is an exceptionally sensitive detector), output up to 1280 x 960, triple codec with WiseStream compression, a built-in 1TB SD card, and an integrated back box. Ratings include IP66/IP67, NEMA4X, NEMA TS2, MIL-STD-810H and IK10 — this is hardware built for perimeters, highways and critical infrastructure.
You choose two things: the lens (how far you need to see) and the frame rate (which affects export paperwork, not detection quality):

The 8 fps advantage: skip the export paperwork

Thermal imaging above 9 frames per second is subject to export-control rules, so the 30 fps models (TNO-C4040T/4050T/4060T/4080T) are special order — non-cancellable, non-returnable — and require end-user export documentation under Hanwha’s thermal agreement.
The 8 fps models (TNO-C4042T/4052T/4062T/4082T) require no end-user export documentation at all. For most security applications — detecting a person at a fence line, a vehicle at a gate, a vessel approaching a dock — 8 frames per second is entirely sufficient, and procurement is far simpler. Unless you specifically need smooth 30 fps thermal video, the 8 fps variant is the one to order.
