XProtect Management Server Failover Server License (Milestone part number XPMSFSL) adds Management Server Failover to an XProtect Expert or XProtect Corporate system. The management server is the heart of XProtect: it holds configuration, authenticates users and coordinates the recording servers. With this licence a second server stands by and takes over automatically if the primary management server, its host or its network fails, so operators keep logging in and recording servers keep receiving configuration. Recording server failover is already built into Expert and Corporate; this licence protects the management layer.

mission-critical operations that cannot tolerate VMS downtime: airports, hospitals, utilities, corrections, city control rooms and any site with a documented availability requirement.

This is an electronic licence. Nothing ships: the licence is issued against your Milestone software licence code (SLC) and activated in the Management Client. Do I need Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise or Windows clustering?
No. Milestone’s Management Server Failover uses its own replication between two servers running XProtect and SQL Server Express or Standard.
What happens to recording during a failover?
Nothing. Recording servers keep recording; users are reconnected to the secondary management server within seconds.
