XProtect Professional+ Device License (Milestone part number XPPPLUSDL) licenses one camera, encoder channel or other IP device on an XProtect Professional+ system. You need one device licence for every device you connect, in addition to the single XProtect Professional+ Base License (XPPPLUSBL) that activates the system. Licences are perpetual and include the first year of Milestone Care Plus.
What counts as a device
- One licence per IP camera or video encoder on the Milestone supported device list, including multi-sensor and panoramic cameras that appear on the list as a single device
- One licence per channel for devices integrated through the universal or ONVIF driver that are not on the supported device list
- One licence per audio device, I/O module, or NVR/DVR channel brought into XProtect
- Devices connected through Milestone Interconnect at a Corporate central site use Interconnect device licences instead
Buying the right quantity
Count every camera and device planned for the system, then add a margin for growth: device licences are added to the same software licence code at any time, so many customers buy exactly what they need now and expand later. Licences move with the system, so replacing a camera does not consume a new licence.
XProtect Professional+ is the mid-range XProtect edition for centrally managed, multi-server sites: centrally managed, multi-server, unrestricted IP devices per recording server (hardware dependent). See the base licence for the full feature list and edition comparison.
This is an electronic licence. Nothing ships: the licence is issued against your Milestone software licence code (SLC) and activated in the Management Client. Perpetual XProtect licences include the first year of Milestone Care Plus; keeping Care Plus current gives you version upgrades and full trade-in value when you move to a higher edition.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a device licence for every camera?
Yes, one XPPPLUSDL per camera, encoder channel, audio device or I/O module connected to the XProtect Professional+ recording servers.
Can I add device licences later?
Yes. Additional device licences are added to your existing software licence code and activated online in the Management Client without downtime.
Does a multi-sensor camera need several licences?
If the camera is on the Milestone supported device list as one device, it uses one licence. Cameras added through the generic ONVIF driver may need one licence per enabled video channel.
Is this the same as an Interconnect licence?
No. Interconnect device licences are used only at an XProtect Corporate central site for cameras that live on remote XProtect systems.
